Living, Learning, and Growing! Our Journey This Week

#6

As the leaves around us are starting to change colors, we’re reminded how lucky we are to be living out in the resort!

Every day, we get to watch the scenery transform, and it’s truly amazing.

This change in season has us reflecting on our own journey as a family—filled with new experiences, learning, and growth.

Homeschooling Adventures:

As we continue meeting more families who homeschool, we're learning just how much freedom this lifestyle provides.

It’s incredible to see how kids are given the space to explore their own interests. By allowing them to choose what they want to learn, they’re so much more engaged and excited about the process.

We’re inspired by this approach and are starting to implement some of these ideas in our own homeschooling journey. The more we embrace this flexibility, the more we see our kids light up with curiosity and passion for learning!

Mexico Trip Update:

Planning our upcoming trip to Mexico has been quite an experience! We're working on the paperwork for the kids’ passports, which has been a bit of a challenge since we’ve had to provide proof that we’re their parents. But it's all coming together!

Instead of flying straight to Mérida, we’ve decided to fly into Cancún first so that we can bring our dog, Luke, along with us.

We’re thinking about staying in Cancún for a week before making the drive over to Mérida, which will give us the chance to explore the beautiful areas along the way. This detour feels like the perfect way to ease into our adventure and discover new places!

Fitness Tip:

Why wait until January 1st to start your New Year's resolution when you can start now and get ahead of everyone else?

Start setting new goals you'd like to accomplish and, when January rolls around, you'll already be ahead of the race.

That’s exactly what I do whenever I want to start a new hobby or habit.

There's no better time than the present to make a positive change!

Renaissance Fair Fun:

We recently had an epic time at a Renaissance fair, and there was so much to learn and see!

One of the fun facts we learned from the falconer is that owls aren’t actually as "wise" as people often think.

We also got to experience full-contact jousting, which is an intense sport—the impact is like standing on a highway and getting hit by a car!

There were cannon-firing demonstrations, live-action role-playing, and even a sport similar to MMA fighting but with medieval foam weapons.

A particularly special moment was when Kayden showed his caring nature. He noticed a boy standing off to the side watching all of the action in the sparing ring, after talking with him a little he discovered he had a disability but really wanted to participate.

Kayden offered to go into the arena with him, making the boy's day and Kayden walked away defeated. The boy's father thanked us afterward, and it was a wonderful reminder of Kayden's kindness and understanding. See our fun here

Celebrating 9 Months of Sobriety:

A quick personal update: I’m now nine months sober, and it's been quite a journey.

What’s funny is that I used to think I’d struggle with the urge to drink or fall back into old habits, but it hasn’t even crossed my mind.

The more I focus on fitness, our family, and the adventure ahead, the less room there seems to be for those old temptations.

It's a great reminder that when we fill our lives with positive, fulfilling pursuits, there’s simply no space left for anything that doesn't serve us.

Thanks for following along on our journey! We hope our updates inspire you to explore your own path to growth, learning, and adventure.

Until next week, 🤙🏼

Josh, Kaitlyn, Kayden, and Olivia!
